Excursions:

Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum near Detroit − (about 1.5 hour bus ride) www.TheHenryFord.org Greenfield Village is Henry Ford's extensive collection of historic American buildings including Thomas Edison's lab, the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, and more, each rebuilt in a large outdoor museum. The Famous Henry Ford Museum, directly adjacent to the Village, began as Henry Ford's collection of artifacts and includes not only cars, but farm equipment, trains, airplanes, steam engines, household inventions and much more.

Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids − (60 min bus ride) www.meijergardens.org The garden includes a 15,000 square foot conservatory with separate gardens as well as a number of outdoor gardens. In both the indoor and outdoor gardens, are a number of superb modern and classical art sculptures. The permanent collection includes 130 works by artists including Degas and Rodin. A striking feature is a creation of the Great Horse designed by Leonardo Da Vinci.

There are several social activities planned throughout the week for conference attendees and their guests to enjoy together.

Tuesday − Poster Session Cocktails at 5 p.m. and Evening Bar-B-Q at Kellogg
Wednesday − Excursions to either Meijer Gardens or the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village
Thursday − Evening Banquet

Two additional Accompanying Guest activities are a Monday afternoon tour of the MSU Horticulture Gardens and a Tuesday afternoon tour of the MSU Museum.

Total cost for both special afternoon tours at MSU will be $15.00.

Monday, July 17 − 1:30-5:00 p.m. − Horticulture Gardens. www.hrt.msu.edu/gardens

Join us for a short bus ride across the Michigan State University campus to the beautiful Horticulture Gardens. Here we will have a tour of the Gardens which include a perennial garden, a rose garden, an annual experimental garden and a children's garden. After the tour there will be time to explore the gardens further and share refreshments and visit with each other before returning to the Kellogg Center by 5 p.m. when the afternoon scientific sessions will be finishing. Everyone is welcome at the cocktail hour at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, July 18 − 1:30-5:00 p.m. − Michigan State University Museum museum.msu.edu

Join us for a 15 minute walk to the center of the original MSU campus where there are buildings from the late 1800's. Located in an old library, the university has developed an historical museum whose focus is the history of the Michigan area. The museum is Michigan's largest public museum of natural history. Before walking back to Kellogg Center we will again have refreshments and have an opportunity to visit with one another. We will return to Kellogg in time to join in the cocktail hour at 5 p.m.

Other activities:

    Kellogg and Brody guests have free access to the MSU intramural sports facilities which include indoor and outdoor swimming pools and other recreation opportunities.

    Additional information about activities both on the university campus and in the Lansing area will be available. Lansing is the capital of the state on Michigan and has several interesting historical destinations.
